Penny Lewis is a neuroscientist at the University of Manchester, where she runs the NaPS (Neuroscience and Psychology of Sleep) lab. Her research investigates the impact of sleep on memory, cognition, and health in general. Currently, her main interest is in ‘Sleep Engineering’, or manipulation of sleep’s properties to enhance its beneficial impact on health and cognition. She is the author of The Secret World of Sleep and has also written for popular science publications, including New Scientist, Scientific American, and BBC Focus. Her research has been featured on the BBC, and received funding from the UK research councils, the Wellcome Trust, and Unilever.
