MacGuffin shortlisted for a Big Chip Award

MacGuffin has been shortlisted at the Big Chip Awards for 'Best Not for Profit Project'

Big Chip is the UK's longest running digital industry awards and the biggest outside London. It has an unrivalled reputation for judging consistency and integrity. The Big Chip Awards are for all things digital in the north of England, with special categories for start-ups, micro-businesses, students and apprentices.

MacGuffin is Comma Press' digital platform for fiction, poetry and essays in text and audio form. Writers upload a reading along with their text; end-users can read the text or stream the audio. It has a tagging system to help readers discover and share new work, and open analytics that make anonymised data available to all users.

MacGuffin is available as a website and an app for iPhone and Android. It's free to use, and features lots of exclusive stories and poems by authors published by Comma Press, Bloodaxe, Valley Press, Peepal Tree and more. If you're a writer, you can upload and share your own stories and poetry - just upload an mp3 audio file of your reading along with the text.

The Big Chips are run by and for the industry, not for profit - by trade association, Manchester Digital with support and help from organisations including Digital Union in the North East, Creative Sheffield, user groups and networks in Leeds and Liverpool, as well as industry volunteers

MacGuffin is an R&D collaboration between Comma Press, fffunction, and The Manchester Metropolitan University. It's supported by the Digital R&D Fund for the Arts.
