Refugee Tales at Stoke Newington Bookshop

16 May 2018 - 6.30PM - 2.50

Modelled on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the second volume of Refugee Tales sets out to communicate the experiences of those who, having sought asylum in the UK, find themselves indefinitely detained. Here, poets and novelists create a space in which the stories of those who have been detained can be safely heard, a space in which hospitality is the prevailing and listening becomes an act of welcome.

In the run up to the Refugee Tales Walk of 2018, join us at the bookshop to find out more about this fantastic outreach project and to hear readings from brilliant writers. We will be welcoming novelist and playwright Gillian Slovo, with a reading of ‘The Listener’s Tale,’ and poet Caroline Bergvall, reading her story ‘The Voluntary Returner’s Tale’ from the Refugee Tales II collection.

Wednesday 16 May 2018 at the Stoke Newington Bookshop, 159 Stoke Newington High Street, London N16 0NY.

Tickets £2.50 (incl. a glass of wine)
