David Constantine's Fifth Short Story Collection Forthcoming in 2019

David Constantine, author of the short story behind the Oscar-nominated film 45 YEARS, will release a new collection of short stories with Comma Press.

The Dressing-Up Box, Constantine’s fifth collection, will bring together all of the author's new stories written since Tea at the Midland, winner of the 2013 Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, the title story of which also won the 2010 BBC National Short Story Award. It features seven previously unpublished stories, and others such as 'Rivers of Blood' written for specific commissions. This collection follows Constantine's In Another Country: Selected Stories (2015) which sold well internationally, with rights sold to North American, German, and Spanish publishers (Biblioasis, Kunstmann and Libros del Asteroide, respectively).

World rights were bought by Manchester's Comma Press, said CEO Ra Page: 'Comma is delighted to be publishing David Constantine's new collection. It demonstrates that small presses can indeed maintain long-term relationships with authors even after awards, international acclaim, and Oscar-nominated film adaptations. When a writer has such a clear and unique voice, like David's, large, loyal audiences can be built around them, despite what people might say about the commercial limitations of the short story.'

David Constantine is regarded as one of the UK's leading short fiction writers, and has been described by The Reader magazine as 'perhaps the finest of contemporary writers in this form.’ On signing the deal, Constantine commented: ‘Comma Press is the place to be. No editor has done more for the short story – and so for contemporary literature altogether – than Ra Page.’

The collection will be published in Summer 2019, and will be accompanied by book launches and festival appearances across the UK.
