English PEN have announced the nineteen books from fifteen countries and thirteen languages that have won their flagship translation awards.
This includes the first novel from South Sudan ever to be published in the UK, and the first to be translated into English.
The winners comprise fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and children’s literature, and – for the first time – a title from Guadeloupe and a translation from the Latin. 60% of the awards have gone to titles written by women.
