Alta Vášová
Alta Vášová (1939) is a prose and screen writer and author of books for children and young adults. After studying mathematics and physics at the Bratislava School of Education, she became a schoolteacher, and later worked for Czechoslovak Television and the Slovak Film Studios. She is the author of screenplays of acclaimed original musicals for the theatre and TV, such as Cyrano z predmestia (1977 Cyrano from the Suburbs) and Neberte nám princeznú (1981 Don’t Take Our Princess Away). Her writing, ranging over a variety of genres, has garnered a number of prestigious literary awards, in particular the Anasoft Litera Prize for the autobiographical book Ostrovy nepamäti (2008, Islands of Oblivion) and the Dominik Tatarka Prize for Odlety (2019 Departures).
