Julia Sherwood

Júlia Sherwood is a translator and promoter of Slovak literature. Born and raised in Bratislava, she studied English and Slavonic languages and literature at universities in Cologne, Munich and London, where she now lives with her husband Peter Sherwood, a linguist and translator with whom she has translated into English works by a range of Slovak, as well as several Czech, writers. She was editor-at-large for Slovakia with the online international literary magazine Asymptote and currently curates the Slovak List for Seagull Books. In 2019, as part of a festival of Slovak literature and art in the UK, ‘Raising the Velvet Curtain’ that she organized, she launched the portal SlovakLiterature.com, which she runs with Magdalena Mullek.
