About the event
Join Comma Press and the University of Manchester for Manchester in Translation 2026, an annual event designed to celebrate literary translation.
This year’s iteration of Manchester in Translation will focus on Chinese, and will involve a short talk on literary translation followed by a practical Chinese to English translation workshop led by experienced literary translator Jack Hargreaves. No Chinese language experience necessary! There will also be a separate English to Chinese workshop available for Chinese speakers led by Dr Yu Kit Cheung, lecturer in Chinese Translation Studies at the University of Manchester.

Who is this event for? - this event is for anyone who is interested in or curious about literary translation
Do I need to speak Chinese to attend this event? - you don't need any Chinese language skills to attend this event. Just make sure to select the ‘Chinese into English’ workshop with Jack Hargreaves when buying your ticket
Which workshop should I choose? - if you don't speak Chinese, you will need to attend the ‘Chinese into English’ workshop with Jack Hargreaves. If you speak Chinese, you're welcome to select either workshop
What is the schedule of this event? - the event will begin with a short talk on literary translation from one of our experts, followed by two concurrent one-hour literary translation workshops. The event will last around two hours in total, including a break
