About the event

This translation workshop will introduce participants to a range of texts from the world of Hindi literature across time periods, genres and audiences. The exercises in this session will include translating metaphorical poetry, magical realist prose, as well as delightful children's writing into English. There will also be a discussion around the chronological movements in Hindi literature, starting from the early 20th century, to contextualise the series of selected texts before translation. Knowledge of the language is essential, but no knowledge of authors or texts is required before the workshop.
