Voices of Resilience at Edinburgh International Book Festival
About the event
Following the success of our Manchester HOME event in April, we are thrilled to announce the return of Voices of Resilience at Edinburgh International Book Fest later this summer.
The resilience of Palestinians has long inspired artists and resistance movements worldwide. The last ten months have seen this solidarity swell to record levels, as people around the world share their horror at the violence and occupation wielded against Palestinians.
Voices of Resilience is an evening of testimonies centred on Atef Abu Saif’s haunting firsthand account, Don’t Look Left: A Diary of Genocide. Performed by the Scottish-Syrian actor Firas Ibrahim, these accounts will be embroidered with poetry readings by Ahmed Nehad, Nada Shawa, Noor Hemani, and Basma Ghalayini, and accompanied by traditional oud music by Ahmed Adnan and a visual score from Gazan filmmaker Hossam Abo Shammallah.
The event will be followed by a Q&A featuring members of the VoR collective and local activists including Willie Black and author Jessica Gaitán Johannesson.
Please join us in expressing solidarity and highlighting the words, music and spirit of Palestine.
