Einar Már Guðmundsson (b. 1954) is a gifted novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter and translator. He has received many awards and distinctions for his books, in Iceland and abroad, such as the Icelandic Literary Prize, Nordic Council Literature Prize, Norwegian Bjørnson Prize, the Scharnberg Memorial Award in Denmark, The Karen Blixen Medal, and The Giuseppe Acerbi Literary Prize in Italy. In 2012, he received the Nordic Council Literature Prize, for his contribution to literature. Guðmundsson’s works have been translated into more than 30 languages and a film based on his novel Angels of the Universe featured music from Icelandic band Sigur Rós.
