Translated Fiction Online Book Club - Comma Press

23 Apr 2020 - 8.00PM

In collaboration with Charco Press, Tilted Axis, Istros Books, Nordisk Books and Peirene Press, we're excited to announce the Translated Fiction Online Book Club! We are all independent publishers of translated fiction from all over the world, and we wanted to create a space for our readers' to discuss great literature in these lonely times, in the hope that it will lift your spirits and help you discover some new books.

Our Comma book is the wonderful Thirteen Months of Sunrise by Sudanese author Rania Mamoun, and translated by Elisabeth Jaquette, who will be leading the discussion. It's a tiny 80 page diddler about life as a woman in contemporary Sudan, depicting motherhood and marriage with dark humour and startling frankness, and a powerful debut by a Sudanese author and activist. We've further discounted this title if you buy direct from our website, and we're offering UK and international delivery as usual, as well as various eBook formats. The session will be Thursday at 8pm GMT,

The weekly meetings will be hosted via Zoom, a video conferencing platform. To register your interest, simply subscribe to the book club mailing list so we can send you more information on which books will be featured and, most importantly, the link to the Zoom meetings. You will need to have Zoom downloaded on your device, but don't worry – installation takes around one minute and is very easy. If you want to read along but can't make it to the meeting, join the conversation by using #virtualbookclub on your social media outlet of choice.

We hope you can join us for some much-needed distraction and discussion!
