About

Since 7 October 2023, over two million Palestinians have been bombed, gassed, displaced, starved, deprived of water, electricity and shelter, indiscriminately shot at, and generally brutalised, all as part of ‘Israel’s right to defend itself'. The ICC, ICJ, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have all used the word ‘genocide’ to describe what has happened, and over 45,000 people have been killed. The world's political and media establishment has stood by, largely indifferent to these atrocities, maintaining its defence of the state of Israel's right to conduct itself however it chooses. Western journalists charged with reporting on these events have generally filed their reports from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, and extremely little ever gets out offering a perspective on ordinary life in Gaza right now.

Four women who've been attempting to share their daily lives through writing are Nahil Mohana, Sondos Sabra, Ala'a Obaid, and Batool Abu Akleen. Trapped in different parts of the Gaza Strip, with commitments to support different members of their immediate family, they have been recording their daily experiences with humour, strength and most of all dignity. Extracts of their diaries have been published in places like Washington Post, New Statesman, LitHub and elsewhere.

The result of these accounts is a body of testimonies like no other.
